While I am not someone who usually struggles to shop, February can be a tough month to find new season picks – wading through the dregs of the January sales as you wait for the new season to start filtering through.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, however, this was a shopping mission I couldn’t resist. So, whether you’re heading out for a romantic meal with your other half, or getting your single mates together to celebrate ‘Galentine’s Day’, now is the perfect excuse to get into your finery and hit the town. Whatever your budget, style or shape, The Posh Rock has got it covered…
1. Zara: Shiny Print Pleated Dress - £49.99
Ruffles are still big news this season and I love the ethereal feel of this Zara dress. Team with a pair of strappy high heels or, if you’re still feeling the chill, a pair of knee high suede boots. A tough leather jacket is the perfect juxtaposition against florals.
2. Topshop: One Shoulder Midaxi Dress - £49.99
An asymmetric line flatters nearly every shape and this piece from Topshop has a touch of high glamour to it. This is a great choice if you want to steer clear of the classic LBD and, best of all, comes in at under £50. What’s not to love?
3. Lavish Alice: Asymmetric midi dress – £70
I’ve been following Lavish Alice for years, who are a really cool brand (lots of great jumpsuits and tailored pieces too). This is another asymmetric number, but I love the detailing around the neckline. Pull your hair into a messy bun and add a pair of statement earrings for maximum impact.
4. Joseph: Crepe Silk Sadie Dress – £445
I naturally reach towards darker colours, so this is a bit of a braver choice for me! Depending on your colour palette, nudes can leave you looking washed out, so try a vampy red lip and midnight black mascara to accentuate your features.
5. Michael Lo Sordo at Net a Porter: Satin-trimmed wool wrap blazer – £575
Red for Valentine’s Day may seem a cliché, but it’s such a bold and confident colour, I can’t help loving it. Wear with a pair of dark ankle grazers and pointed heel or, if you want to go the whole hog, reach for the matching trousers.
6. House of Fraser: Cap Sleeved Pleated Midi Skirt – £210
If demure dinner dates are your thing, then this navy midi dress is ideal. An A-line skirt is always elegant, but the sheer detailing here gives it a bit of edge. I’d almost be tempted to ditch the heels and go for a pair of nude ballet pumps. Finish off with blush-rose cheeks and a soft pink lip to complete the look.
